At the pinnacle of Miami’s dance scene lies a phenomenom that has been three years in the making. As we enter the new millennium, this club is at the forefront of the future in music. The club is none other than Shadow Lounge, Miami’s Trance Temple. The DJ is trance cowboy George Acosta, your guide to the trance elements of the future.
Known as the “Trance Conductor” he releases a charge of energy every week through the lounge’s mammoth sound system that shakes the earth and brings his followers to there knees. At present Shadow Lounge is considered by many europeans to be America’s most important link to the trance movement that has already overtaken Europe. America’s premier trance DJ brings you into his home. “When I play the Lounge I feel Like I am at home, I look down to the dance floor and I see my people, they understand me, they understand what is happening as I spin my records. Every time I step up to the turntables at Shadow Lounge it’s like the martix, I can’t describe what happens I just want it to stay”.
George sees the Shadow Lounge as a medium by which he can communicate peace and love to all as we enter the new millenium.
I saw Darude the first time he came to Columbus right after his hit single, “Sandstorm”, was released.
I’ll be honest, I wasn’t impressed. I like his super trancey singles, but his mixing ability is greatly lacking. Who knows, maybe since then he has improved. Let’s cross our fingers.
Either way, it will be interesting to see his track selection and if he’s expanded a little past his ancient “Sandstorm” and “Feel the Beat” sound.
Darude is currently ranked #58 on the DJ List as of January 1, 2008[1] and #116 in the DJ Mag Top 100.[2]
Darude posted his singles Tell Me and My Game from his upcoming new album Label This! on his official MySpace page. Tell Me was released in Finland on April 11, 2007 and My Game on September 19, 2007.
The Finnish release date for Label This! was October 24, 2007.

This is no ordinary show. This duo is known to play some of the largest events in the world. Granted it’s only one of the renowned duo DJ team, I think this will still be a sight to see.
In 1988-89, a 20 year old exchange student from California Institute of the Arts, was living in The Hague in Holland and studying at the Institute of Sonology. Josh Gabriel had already been working with digital music since his high-school days, achieving mastery of the DX7 and TX816 by the age of 17. With an Apple Macintosh Plus, operating system 3, and the earliest of music applications like Mark of the Unicorn’s “Composer” and “Performer”, Josh was already at the bleeding edge.
In Holland, Gabriel’s inventor spirit took shape as he wrote a computer application to control samples on an Akai S900 in real-time with a joystick. And the inception for what later became Mixman had been born. Along with electronics whiz Jan Pannis, (Stockhausen’s tech-man) Gabriel and Pannis built an apparatus which converted beams of light coming up off the floor into a Midi Control device and the 20 year old Gabriel dressed in black, wearing white gloves performed his real-time beat-trigger device in the clubs of Amsterdam.
By 1993 Gabriel was doing high-end digital sound editing, design and production in Los Angeles, and finally found a business partner and the journey that was to become Mixman began.
I saw these guys at Bonnaroo last year where they maintained an incredible energy for five straight hours. It was probably one of the most amazing shows I have ever seen in my life.
If there is only one show you see in the next six months, this should be it.
I am so excited to see these guys play again. It is super rare to see them touring around the U.S.
Sasha & John Digweed are a pair of DJs from the United Kingdom. John Digweed had been DJ-ing for ten years before getting a gig at Renaissance where he met Sasha, who had been working the past few years in various acid house clubs and raves. Together, he and Sasha honed their DJ skills, focusing on track selection and technical mixing abilities. In 1994, they released the triple CD mix album Renaissance: The Mix Collection on Renaissance Records. It contained many popular dance hits of the time from artist such as Leftfield, Fluke, and 2 Bad Mice as well as original productions and remixes from the duo themselves. Two years later, the duo became “true superstars” (AllMusic) with the release of their double CD Northern Exposure on mega-label Ministry of Sound. This release was brought to the United States the next year in a single CD package on Ultra Records. 1997 saw the release of the Northern Exposure 2 double CD mix album, again on Ministry of Sound. Sasha and Digweed toured internationally, helping define the sound of progressive house & trance music in the late ’90s. In 1998, both John Digweed and Sasha released separate mix albums on Boxed as part of the Global Underground series with Digweed’s GU 006: Sydney and Sasha’s GU 009: San Francisco release.
In the late ’90s, Digweed and Sasha took up residency at New York City’s famous Twilo nightclub as well as releasing their third edition in the Northern Exposure series: Northern Exposure: Expeditions. They both continued their success in the Global Underground series with Digweed’s GU 014: Hong Kong and Sasha’s GU 013: Ibiza. In addition to their residency, they toured the United States, especially to promote their DJ mix Communicate in 2000. Shortly thereafter, they embarked on their international Delta Heavy Tour in 2002. They have collaborated little since Delta Heavy. They appeared together at the 2007 Bonnaroo Music Festival, and counted down the new year during a 4 hour set in Los Angeles at Together As One. They’re set to perform at the 2008 Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival as well.
In 2008 Sasha & Digweed announced their plans to do another tour of North America taking in 21 cities in one month.
Bad Boy Bill is coming back again. If you haven’t seen him yet, go see him!
He can get a little carried away sometimes, but he’s always full of energy and creates a fun atmosphere.
The DJ List bio:
“Bad Boy Bill is in the mix and he’s live - Understand!”
So goes one of the legendary chants of Chicago house icon Bad Boy Bill, who began name checking when he first started out on the radio to distinguish himself from the other DJs on the airwaves. Bill has come a long way from his days as a radio mix show DJ. On his belt hang the titles of DJ, Artist, Producer, Songwriter, and Entrepreneur. Not to mention three-time DMC FINALIST, 1998 Winter Music Conference MIXSHOW DJ OF THE YEAR, 1999 URB Magazine 2nd Place DJ OF THE YEAR, and this year’s #1 FAVORITE DJ according to BPM Magazine. And now, after the success of the Bangin’ In The Box series, Bill is upping the ante to deliver Behind the Decks, a new mix CD and DVD, on System Recordings.
Hailed by DJ Magazine as “One of America’s most popular and influential DJs,” the renowned artist didn’t grow up dreaming of making music - in his youth, he thought he would perhaps pursue a career as a professional baseball player. But in high school, after joining a DJ crew with some of his neighborhood friends, Bill entered the world of DJ battles and party promotion. “My DJ style originated with the idea to remix a song live with two copies of the same record and then combine scratching and hip-hop techniques with house grooves.” At only 16, his friend Julian “Jumpin” Perez, who deemed Bill “the dopest white kid he’d ever seen,” stood Bill before prominent radio jockey Farley Jackmaster Funk at WGCI, and he began scratching and mixing the eight records he’d been practicing on for hours every day. Farley was so impressed he recruited Bill right then and there. After WGCI, Bill found himself on the airwaves again on Chicago’s B96, and eventually broadened his skills, making his own tracks and starting his own record label while still a senior in high school. Nowadays, Bill averages over 150 DJ gigs annually, playing everywhere from New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles to international hotspots including Peru, Colombia, Germany, England, and Spain.
Coming from a broad musical and cultural background, Bill cites numerous personal influences. “My grandfather was an opera singer so he was always into music, and was very supportive,” he says. “My dad took me downtown to buy my first set of 1200s - I will always thank him for that.” Additionally influenced by the likes of motivational speaker Anthony Robbins and Chicago mix show DJs ‘The Hot Mix 5′, Bill notes, “Everything I hear affects every song I choose to play and the way I play it.”
And his inspiration? Spinning the crowd into a dancing frenzy with his lighting-quick mixes (often playing up to 20 records in the time the average DJ would mix in 5). “The payoff for me is seeing people dancing and having a great time during my set,” he explains. And of course, another source of inspiration: the ladies (Bill was named the “Wilt Chamberlain of Techno” by Lotus Magazine).
The new double disc release, Behind the Decks, delivers that famed Bad Boy Bill pumpin’ house sound with his legendary scratching, a cappella, and turntable tricks, but also takes the entire live experience to a new level with DTS and Dolby 5.1 surround sound mixes and visuals. With this mix CD and two-hour DVD, Bill hopes his audience can finally “get a good picture of what I’m like and what I do.” A perfectionist, Bill is always striving to expand and improve upon what he’s done before. And Bill feels this new mix is doing just that - moving forward, progressing and growing. “My musical style is constantly evolving. I used to spin deep house, acid house, hip house, freestyle, techno, and the list goes on. My sound today is what it is based on the music I have heard or made prior,” Bill says. Smiling, he adds, “My personal style has changed as well, from Underoos to Wranglers, Jordache to parachute pants, and then all the way to Snug and Prada.”
In spite of all of his accomplishments, Bad Boy Bill remains modest, levelheaded and positively motivated about his direction. “I am always thinking about the future.” Working in the studio up to 14-16 hours some days, Bill continues to push the boundaries, both with Behind The Decks as well as his next endeavour: his artist album.
You can catch Bad Boy Bill live and “Behind The Decks” as the BTD tour rolls through a city near you because Bad Boy Bill is “in the mix and he’s live - Understand!”
